Day 1Launceston and surrounds

Distance and drive time: 150 km – 2 hr 30 min

  • Take a guided tour with beer tastings at James Boags Brewery

  • Explore the Tamar Valley wine route

  • Visit Seahorse World and/or see platypuses and echidnas nearby at Platypus House, Beauty Point

  • Join a sunset penguin tour at Low Head

Day 2Launceston to Devonport

Distance and drive time: 120 km – 1 hr 45 min

  • Drive the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail from Hagley stopping at Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm
  • View the world-class murals at Sheffield
  • Hunt for truffles at Cradle Country Truffles
  • Pick up some Tasmanian cider in Spreyton at Spreyton Cider Co.
  • Sip a gin infused with local botanicals at Southern
  • Wild Distillery, Devonport

Day 3Devonport to Stanley

Distance and drive time: 160 km – 2 hr 45 min

  • Taste one of Australia’s best single malt distilled whiskies at Hellyers Road Distillery, Burnie
  • Visit Table Cape for a photo opportunity at Table Cape Tulip Farm (spring time)
  • See lighthouses and shipwrecks at Rocky Cape National Park
  • Step back in time at the elegantly restored High eld Historic Site overlooking the Nut at Stanley

Day 4Stanley and surrounds

Distance and drive time: 170 km – 2 hr 15 min

  • Take the chairlift to the top of The Nut for spectacular views of the coast
  • Explore the diverse landscape along the Tarkine Wilderness Drive and have lunch in Marrawah
  • Stand at the ‘Edge of the World’ at Arthur River and look out over the Indian Ocean
  • Experience some fresh, local seafood in Stanley for dinner

Day 5Stanley to Cradle Mountain

Distance and drive time: 200 km – 2 hr 54 min

  • See local artisan’s produce or join a paper making workshop at the Makers’ Workshop, Burnie
  • Visit the town of Penguin, have your photo taken with the giant berglass penguin or see the real thing at Penguin Point
  • Explore the magical world of Tasmazia and The Village of Lower Crackpot

  • Take the picturesque Dove Lake Circuit walk at Cradle Mountain

  • Join a tour with Cradle Mountain Canyons or get an aerial view on a flight with Cradle Mountain Helicopters

  • Watch Tasmanian devils during the day or night at Devils@Cradle

Day 7Cradle Mountain to Strahan

Distance and drive time: 140 km – 2 hr 18 min

  • Visit historic mining town of Zeehan and walk through the Spray Tunnel, a 100 m abandoned railway tunnel
  • Ride the historic West Coast Wilderness Railway in Strahan
  • Drive to Henty Dunes and watch the sunset at Ocean Beach

Day 8Strahan and the Gordon River

Distance and drive time: 4 km – 9 min

  • Join a cruise on the Gordon River into Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area
  • Take the short walk to Hogarth Falls in Strahan
  • Enjoy Australia’s longest running stage performance, The Ship that Never Was, held nightly in Strahan

Day 9Strahan to Hobart

Distance and drive time: 300 km – 4 hr 30 min

  • Explore Queenstown, a rugged mining town at the edge of the World Heritage Wilderness Area
  • Visit the Wall in the Wilderness, a 100 m long hand carved sculpture on display at Derwent Bridge
  • Find something unique in New Norfolk’s antique stores on the way back to Hobart

Day 10Hobart to Bruny Island

Distance and drive time: 150 km – 3 hr 30 min

  • Take your car on the ferry from Kettering to Bruny Island (check the departure schedule)
  • Join a Bruny Island Cruise with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys and see sea-cli s, caves and seal colonies and possibly dolphins. Whales may also be sighted during migration season.
  • Tour the island by car stopping for oysters and cheese tasting at the Bruny Is. Cheese Co. and Get Shucked

 

Overnight Hobart

Day 11Hobart and surrounds

Distance and drive time: 40 km – 1 hr 15 min

  • Catch the ferry from Brooke Street Pier to the Museum of Old and New Art – Mona

  • Explore the museum and have lunch at The Source Restaurant

  • Return to Hobart and drive or take a tour to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington for spectacular views

Day 12Hobart to Coles Bay

Distance and drive time: 220 km – 3 hr 15 min

  • After breakfast, head east to start the Great Eastern Drive at Orford
  • Drop in at Kate’s Berry Farm before Swansea for a delicious fruit pie with rich vanilla ice cream
  • Stop for lunch and wine tastings at Devil’s Corner cellar door – and don’t forget to take in the view from the award winning lookout
  • Drive to Cape Tourville Lighthouse and lookout

 

Overnight Coles Bay

Day 13Coles Bay to Launceston

Distance and drive time: 211 km – 2 hr 54 min

  • Start early and take the walk up to the Wineglass Bay lookout or join Wineglass Bay Cruises
  • Visit historic Campbell Town
  • Explore the World Heritage sites of Brickendon Estate and Woolmers Estate, Longford
  • See fine Tasmanian design at the Design Tasmania Centre

 

Overnight Launceston

Day 14Launceston

Distance and drive time: 23 km – 40 min

  • Go to the Harvest Market and pick up fresh local produce (every Saturday)
  • Ride the world’s longest single-span chairlift over Cataract Gorge
  • Take in an exhibition at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG)
  • Visit some of the many providores showcasing the best of Tasmania
