Your Health & Safety is Our Priority

We are committed to delivering our world-class service to you while ensuring your health and safety is our highest priority. As government guidelines and industry best practices evolve on the prevention of COVID-19 and other viruses and illnesses, we are updating our procedures to be best in class.

Last updated – July 16, 2021: The information below outlines our current planned procedures for our operations. As the travel season continues, protocols and procedures may be adapted or changed to adhere to evolving travel regulations and conditions. Please check this website before you travel with us for the most up-to-date information. All guests are required to follow our health and safety protocols, including those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Before You Travel

CONTACT TRACING
We will ask for your contact information prior to travel for contact tracing purposes and in the event of an emergency. Your personal information may be disclosed to the public health authority, if required for contact tracing.
 
QUICK AND SEAMLESS CHECK-IN
You can check-in online 48 hours prior to your train departure to ensure the boarding process is as seamless as possible.
 
RAPID SCREENING TESTS
In Canada: we will provide you with a rapid screening test for COVID-19. We recommend that you register for your screening test in advance, to provide a more efficient experience when you arrive.

Transfers & boarding

PRE-TRAVEL HEALTH CHECK QUESTIONNAIRE
We will ask you questions about your health and recent travels, and if you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, you will not be able to board the train.
 
SEAMLESS BOARDING
If a motorcoach transfer is included in your package, you will board the train directly from the motorcoach transfer to make the boarding as seamless as possible. If you are making your own way to your departure, you will board the train as soon as it is available. Please check your final travel documents for details. 
 
FACE COVERINGS
We will follow any face covering requirements* by the governing agencies where we travel.  

Canadian Routes: currently, you aren’t required to wear a face covering except when moving around your motorcoach. From August onwards, you will not be required to wear a face covering at any time onboard the motorcoach unless requirements change. 

US Routes: per the CDC guidelines, you will be required to wear a face covering on your motorcoach.

*Face coverings, which are non-medical masks, must be made of at least two layers of protective absorbent fabric, such as cotton or linen, completely cover your nose and mouth without gaping, and be secured to the face with ties or ear loops.  You may be exempt from wearing a face covering if you have a medical reason that prevents you from wearing one during travel but must present a valid medical certificate from your doctor.

Onboard Rocky Mountaineer

AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM
There will be a constant intake and circulation of fresh air every 3.5 minutes with bipolar ionizers in the air ducts that will eliminate 99.9% of airborne particles such as bacteria and viruses.
 
PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS
Soap, fresh water, and hand sanitizer will be readily available in your train coach. On our Canadian routes, we will also provide guests with an amenity kit that includes additional hand sanitizer, wipes, and a face covering.
 
ELECTROSTATIC DISINFECTION
Canadian routes: at the start and end of each travel day, our train interiors will be thoroughly sanitized using an electrostatic disinfectant sprayer.
 
THOROUGH SANITIZATION
Your train seat and tray table will be sanitized at the start of each day. All high-touch and common areas will be disinfected throughout the day.
 
SAFE PERSONAL SPACE
We will follow any capacity limits and physical distancing requirements from the governing agencies where we travel.  

Canadian routes: currently, you will be seated with your travel party (up to a maximum of six people) with physical distancing between your party and others. Each train coach will have less than 60% of our usual capacity, to a maximum of 30-38 guests per coach. August onwards, each train coach will have less than 80% of our usual capacity.

Canadian Routes: currently, you aren’t required to wear a face covering except when moving around your coach. From August onwards, you will not be required to wear a face covering at any time onboard the train unless requirements change. 

US Routes: per the CDC guidelines, you will be required to wear a face covering throughout your journey while indoors onboard the train. Face coverings will not be required while you are eating or drinking or while on the outdoor viewing platform.

FOOD SERVICE
All food, including snacks served at your seat, will be prepared in our galleys and delivered directly to you. If you are booked in GoldLeaf Service, you can enjoy your gourmet breakfast and lunch in our dining area, which has barriers between your travel party and others.

Mobility & Accessibility

We make it as easy as possible for guests using wheelchairs to get on, off and around our coaches.

We want to ensure you receive the same high-level of service and commitment to safety throughout your journey as you do onboard our train. We will remain in close communication with our partners regarding any updates to their health and safety protocols as recommended guidelines evolve.
 
HOTELS
All the third-party hotels we partner with have implemented enhanced health and safety procedures in line with recommended best practices. This includes stringent cleaning procedures, plexiglass barriers, physical distancing signage, and hand sanitizer stations

HIGHLY TRAINED

Our onboard team is highly trained in providing care and first aid should anything happen during your travel on the train.


MEDICAL PROTOCOLS

If you feel unwell, our onboard team will do everything in their ability to support you, including arranging for transport to the nearest medical facility. If a guest begins to display symptoms of COVID-19 while on the train, our team will safely relocate them to an isolated area away from other guests. We will also carry out enhanced cleaning procedures to thoroughly sanitize the affected coach.


PREVENTATIVE MEASURES AND GEAR

On our Canadian routes, our team will also be required to complete rapid screening tests for COVID-19 before the start of the train journey.

Our guest experience team is ready to assist you while you are travelling with us, seven days a week from 6 am to 9 pm PT.

Our newest route, Rockies to the Red Rocks, will give you the adventure you crave with the service you deserve. From vast canyons and chromatic deserts, to red sandstone landscapes that twist through the bright blue sky, this rail route is lled with highlights best seen by their glass-dome coaches. The two-day train journey travels between Denver, Colorado to Moab, Utah with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This stunning scenery is complemented by vibrant storytelling, regionally-inspired cuisine and impeccable service.
